You’re likely familiar with the basic rules of spa etiquette: keep your phone on silent, respect others’ privacy, and speak in hushed tones while soft bossa nova plays in the background. But have you ever wondered about the best sequence to maximize your spa experience?

Many people are likely to make a mistake by going straight from the pool to the sauna while still wet or moving directly to the steam room after the sauna. Here’s the ideal sequence to ensure you get the most out of your SPA visit.

Step 1: Start with the Steam Room

Begin your spa journey while still dry by using the steam room. The steam room has numerous benefits for your respiratory system. It’s also beneficial for those with sleep issues, chronic fatigue, poor circulation, dry and cracked skin, tense muscles, or sensitivity to temperature changes. The recommended time to spend in the steam room is between 10 and 20 minutes, followed by a mandatory shower with lukewarm to cool water to stimulate your body.

Step 2: Dive into the Pool

Next, take a dip in the pool. The pool water is typically maintained at a temperature of 28-30 degrees Celsius. Here, you can choose to either swim a few laps or simply enjoy a leisurely splash. After your time in the pool, a shower is essential.

Step 3: Cleanse with a Shower

Showering helps remove pool chemicals and impurities from your skin, preventing their evaporation later in the sauna. Don’t forget to shower before entering the pool as well to wash off traces of perfume, deodorant, and other impurities.

Step 4: Relax on the Heated Lounges

Following your swim, head to the heated lounges, known as caldarium’s and tepidarium’s. These lounges help relax your muscles and warm up your body before entering the sauna. Their temperature ranges between 36-40 degrees Celsius, and a 15–20-minute stay is recommended. Once your body is accustomed to the higher temperature, it’s time to visit the sauna.

Step 5: Unwind in the Sauna

Enter the sauna dry and with a towel. The sauna helps in expelling toxins from your body and excess fluids. A 15-minute session is sufficient. After the sauna, another shower is necessary, this time with cooler water to improve circulation. Avoid using hot water for showering after the sauna as it can be more harmful than beneficial. Cooling down is crucial.

Step 6: Return to the Steam Room (Optional)

Finally, you can return to the steam room for an additional session if desired, followed by a final shower and some relaxation on the lounge chairs.

By following this sequence, you can ensure a rejuvenating and refreshing spa experience that maximizes the benefits of each facility.
